Felt like that before, and wondered what it was about, and what to do about it?
1 Kings 19:3-7
3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." 5 Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep.
All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." 6 He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
7 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night. 3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. Have you ever looked at these moments of being sideswiped as a journey? In the past, I have viewed the side-swiping as the journey and the goal was just trying to get past it and move on!!! I have agreed with Elijah "I've had enough!". In our microwave mentality, we want to fix things quickly and move on. Anybody?
But notice that Elijah left his servant and journeyed for a day alone into the desert. There, he was instructed to eat because the journey ahead of him was too much for him. You see, the side-swiping of life is only the invitation to a greater journey: a journey that will be too much for you to handle on your own. A journey less traveled in our "quick-fix" society. This journey is Divinely designed just for you, to drive you back to the Only One who can mend, heal, grow, and transform your heart.
At salvation, God was inviting you into an intimate relationship with Him.
1 Corinthians 1:9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
1 Corinthians 1:26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called.
Just as we are called to our initial salvation, God continues to call and invite us back into intimacy with Him when the storms of life hit us and knock us off course. God is inviting you in the midst of your barren place to go on a journey with Him....to return to His Presence and His Peace. Will you join Him?
