Now how does that apply to our spiritual life? Two things:
1) When temptation or sinful struggles or satan attacks you, don't let it go and think that it will take care of itself. Deal with it. Pluck it from you. Root it out. Face it (this is the temptation, sin or attack of satan of ________). Trace it ("what is this about, Lord?" , "where is this temptation coming from?", "what lie is trying to wedge in my mind and heart?"). Erase it (walk away from the sin, ask the Lord for His help, find the truth about it in the Word of God and meditate on it as truth) .
Romans 6
15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. 19I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. 20When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2) Ask for help from fellow believers who are on the same journey as you. If we isolate ourselves, it will not be long before the enemy takes us down the road to independence from God and thus a loss of intimacy with the Father. As you ask for help, your friends may be able to offer you some truth from the Word of God to help you....like a spiritual sewing kit.....
James 5
13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. So, next time your button gets popped off, don't let it go, and ask for help! It will save you from a lot of heartache and struggle. Oh, and you may want to carry your spiritual sewing kit (the Word) with you at all times for when these emergencies pop up!!! or should I say pop off?!!!
