Then the thought came to me: If my Daddy came to my house and told me that he had the perfect plan just for me that would make me the most fulfilled, happy, and free that I could ever be, what would I do? I can tell you! I would drop everything and do exactly what he told me to do. Why? Because I KNOW my daddy loves me. He can be trusted. And even though he has blistered my behind over the years and even allowed me to suffer from my own choices, I still know that it was all for me to grow and learn from my mistakes. So I've never doubted that he had my best interest at heart.
Jesus said, "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for fish, will give him a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask of Him!" (Matthew 7:9-11)
The truth is that God DOES love you more than you can imagine. He DOES have a very specific plan for your life, and He wants to take you on the journey of growing you and making you ready to fulfill that purpose, as you walk and talk with Him. But you've got to trust Him.......even if you feel like your behind gets blistered......even if He allows you to reap the consequences of your bad choices......why? Because at the core, He deeply loves you and has your best interest at heart.
Could the root of my unwillingness to walk with God in complete surrender be this: I don't KNOW (I mean really know.... in your gut) that God loves me? That He really can be trusted? Even though my head may know it and the Scripture may say it, if I am clutching onto my life with a death grip, then in reality, I am saying (without ever saying a word at all) "my life is better in my hands than in Yours"....."I am NOT sure if You love me."......"You may not be trustworthy."
"But God demonstrated His love for us that while we were yet sinners, He died for us." Romans 5:8.
"Oh how He loves you and me. Oh, how He loves you and me. He gave His life, what more could He give? Oh, how He loves you. Oh, how He loves me. Oh, how He loves you and me."
My Mother used to sing that song over me when I was growing up. So, today, may you find yourself offering great thanks for God's incredible love for you. May it even "click" for the very first time the depth of love He has for you. May you begin to ponder these thoughts and begin to live your life completely surrendered. And may you hear Him in nature, in a loved one, in a child, or in His still small voice sing over you, "Oh, how I love you!"
